The first trailer caravan ever to appear at a motor show came in 1920. The Eccles Company pioneered caravans in Britain and did much to popularise this new form of leisure.
All interiors and furniture were French polished by hand. Caravanners writing in the press around this time indicated that almost any farmer or landowner would allow them onto their land for a night's stay, often without charge!
