Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow MkI

Not on Display

The Rolls-Royce name has always signified quality and style regardless of cost. But by the mid-1950s, it was becoming clear that the Rolls-Royce and Bentley models available were showing signs of age. Separate chassis and coachwork body construction was at the limit of evolution and it was time to redesign.

The Silver Shadow featured monocoque bodywork and a V8 engine that had been announced in 1959 and took inspiration from units made by Chrysler and Cadillac. Launched in October 1965, the Silver Shadow was the most successful product to emerge from the Crewe factory. Over 40,000 Shadows and its two-door, limousine and Bentley variants were built until 1995 when production finally ended in favour of new models.
