First announced at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show, 5,000 Cosworth Sierras needed to be built to qualify the model for Group A saloon car racing. In the end 6,021 were made with around 1600 sold in the UK.
Cosworth Engineering of Northampton developed the new turbocharged double overhead cam shaft YB engine which was based around the existing Ford Pinto cylinder block. Race and rally versions could be tuned to produce 300bhp.
This car is standard apart from the engine which was prepared by BBR Racing and is claimed to produce 280bhp.
