Herbert Austin resigned as General Manager of Wolseley in 1905, setting up his own business at Longbridge in 1906.

The Austin A40 Devon was launched in 1948 and continued production until 1952. It was succeeded by the Somerset, with improved accommodation, power output and fuel consumption. The A40 Sports special cylinder head was adopted and Dunlopillo upholstery, trimmed with leather, used in place of spring cushions. The Somerset was a very practical, everyday car.

Used only occasionally in recent years, this car had one owner from new and has very low mileage.
