From 1983–1988 1.5 litre turbocharged (an exhaust driven compressor) cars dominated Formula 1. Renault introduced the first engine in 1978.
Most successful combinations were the Marlboro McLaren TAG, the Williams Honda and finally the Marlboro McLaren Honda which won the World Drivers' and Constructors' Championship in 1988. In that year they achieved 15 wins in 16 Grand Prix.
This car has been driven to first and second places by World Champions Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost.
