This outstanding leather-bound album from the early 1900s, depicts Fowler Steam Engines. It has recently been catalogued by a team of volunteers and staff, making it available for viewing for the very first time.
A class B compound traction engine no. 5194, fitted with Aveling & Greig's patent sprung wheels, built by Fowler in 1886. The idea of sprung wheels occupied attention for several years, but it is doubtful that the added cost, weight and maintenance was justified since the majority were discarded by the end of the decade.
