The Cortina, named after an Italian ski resort, was designed as a European medium size car at a small car price. For £639, the owner had a stylish car capable of 40mpg, carrying five people and twenty cubic feet of boot.
Announced in September 1962, the Cortina was a great success and changed the face of British motoring.
