We are currently embarking upon a comprehensive redevelopment of the National Motor Museum which means at certain times the vehicles on display may be changing on a daily basis. If there is a particular vehicle that you wish to view please contact us on 01590 614541 in advance of your visit to check that it is on display. In 1959, Lord Montagu bought this car as a wedding present for his wife. Note how the passengers are given no protection from bad weather and road dust; the monocle windscreen is for the driver only. Headlamps are acetylene gas with additional oil side-lamps. For sunny days, ladies could use the parasol carried in the wicker basket, but not when travelling at speed!
This car was driven by Sally Ann Howes, the actress who played Truly Scrumptious, in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
