M & L Trials Special
On Display
After World War II, the sport of trials (Mudplugging) became much more sophisticated. Alfred Moss (Stirling Moss's father) and Michael Lawson, collectively known as M & L of Surrey, built this ultra lightweight car.
It is fitted with a modified Ford 10hp engine. The paintwork on each mudguard is cracked as they are both specially made of rubber.
Between 1955 and 1959, it achieved either Best Performance or Second Best Performance in no less than twenty-four trials, making it possibly the most successful trials special ever built.
