Dressing up Steampunk style

Visitors to Beaulieu can enjoy dressing up in Automotive Steampunk style throughout the summer holidays in specially created costumes in the museum. Children and adults are invited to pose for pictures in the outfits, sitting in the 1904 Pope-Tribune car, then share their images using #STEAMinspire to Beaulieu’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Email your photo to nmmtcomp@beaulieu.co.uk and the visitor with the best picture will win an annual family pass to the Beaulieu Attraction.

A range of steampunk themed activities are taking place as part of the KEEP CALM and STEAM Ahead project.

Arts University Bournemouth students have created a collection of Automotive Steampunk costumes inspired by iconic vehicles in the National Motor Museum. Students modelled the costumes for a professional photoshoot held at the Museum which created much interest among visitors. The costumes are on show alongside the vehicles that inspired them throughout the summer until the 21st September.

National Motor Museum staff took the opportunity to share outputs from the project at the Simply VW and Hot Rod & Custom events held during June. Children’s activities were provided with an Automotive Steampunk flavour and the local steampunk community turned out in force.

This August, visitors to the National Motor Museum can take part in Creative Fun activities inspired by the project. Families can enjoy a range of activities exploring magical mechanisms on the theme of Automotive Steampunk.
