Hans Schleger (1898–1976), who often signed his work Zero, studied in Berlin for five years and settled in London in 1932. He designed posters for many organisations including the GPO and London Transport, and produced posters during the war for the Ministry of Agriculture. One of the originators of the concept of corporate image for large businesses, he designed bus stop symbols in 1935, and corporate identities for British Sugar and the Edinburgh International Festival. He was appointed Royal Designer for Industry in 1959.
