British Motocross rider Dave Nicoll raced this bike in the 1967 and 1968 seasons. Nicoll was one of a number of top competitors who rode for BSA. His victory in the in 1969 Luxembourg Grand Prix was the last win for a four-stroke machine in a World Championship event until the 1990s.

BSA was a major force in 1960s Motocross. Jeff Smith won the 500cc World Championship in 1964 on a 420cc B40. For 1965 this became the 441ccc Victor, taking Smith to a second world title. The Victor’s frame was a development of BSA’s 250cc bike, giving works riders a lightweight, powerful machine and a considerable advantage over competitors on heavier 500s.
