This is thought to be the oldest roadworthy Triumph in the world. The company had marketed bicycles since the 1880s and introduced its first motorcycle in 1902.

The machine was a bicycle with a Belgian-made 239cc four-stroke engine mounted on the front down tube of the frame and driving the rear wheel by belt.

In 1903, JAP engines were fitted, as this machine shows. JAP were made by J.A. Prestwick & Co., Tottenham, London.
