When introduced in 1949, the LE-type Velocette was acclaimed worldwide for its quietness, weather protection, comfort and safety. More power was provided when the 149cc engine was, in 1951, increased in capacity to 192cc.

Many of the technical features, such as water-cooled, twin-cylinder engine, shaft final drive and pressed-steel, box-section frame with readily adjustable rear springing were advanced for motorcycles at the time.

This example was supplied new to the Metropolitan Police. Affectionately nicknamed Noddy Bikes, riders were not required to salute salute their superiors but nod their heads instead.
