The National Motor Museum was originally founded by Edward, Lord Montague as a tribute to his father who was a motoring pioneer. The museum collection grew, and in 1972 the National Motor Museum was built in the grounds of Lord Montague's Place House estate and the National Motor Museum Trust was formed to care for and display the collection.
