Minstead Minibus Stories: Community exhibition celebrates journeys, creativity and connection

A joyful new National Motor Museum display shares how minibus journeys support independence, friendship and wellbeing for neuro disabled people at Minstead Trust in the New Forest.

The ‘Minstead Minibus Stories’ community exhibition is now open at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, marking the culmination of a two-year collaboration with Minstead Trust.

Developed and designed together, the exhibition highlights the important role of motorised transport in the lives of neuro disabled adults who attend Minstead Trust's New Forest Day Opportunities. Inspired by conversations, creativity and personal experiences, it shares their stories and explains why the minibus is essential to daily life, friendship and wellbeing.

At the centre of the exhibition is a joyful 3-D art installation depicting the daily route taken by the two minibuses across East and West Totton, before continuing on to Minstead Lodge, home of Minstead Trust’s New Forest Day Opportunities. The artwork has been a true collaboration with many people making and painting the buildings, vehicles, and trees. Alongside the installation is a video sharing stories, photos, and brilliant insights into conversations on the minibus journey. Far more than simply a means of getting from A to B, the Minstead minibus plays an essential role for adults in community.

David, who is supported by Minstead Trust, said: 'It’s a good journey, a chance to catch up as well as talk to other people.'

The whole experience has been joyful! We are so proud of everyone’s contributions and are delighted to showcase their creativity and stories with our visitors.'

The project is part of the National Motor Museum’s intention to engage and develop meaningful relationships with the wider community, ensuring diverse representation in the Museum. The exhibition is now open at the museum until Christmas, and guests are encouraged to take a moment to marvel at the model village and listen to the Minibus Stories.
