LGBTQ+ Allies in Motorsport

Damon Hill, 1996 Formula One World Champion on the launch of Racing Pride in 2019:

“The launch of Racing Pride is a great step towards making motorsport a more inclusive environment. Motorsport has only ever asked that people give their best, whether they’re drivers, engineers, mechanics or organisers. If people from the LGBTQ+ community in motorsport feel it’s a difficult place for them to do that, it’s incumbent upon all of us to change those conditions. That’s why I’m supporting Racing Pride and look forward to the day that they no longer have to campaign for acceptance.”

Sebastian Vettel, 4-time Formula One World Champion, speaking in 2021 to Racing Pride’s community:

“I’m going to push as hard as I can and use my voice wherever I can to support you, because we should all be the same and we should all be allowed to love who we love.”

Sir Lewis Hamilton, 7-time Formula One World Champion, speaking to Racing Pride Ambassador Christian Hewgill in 2023:

“I feel we have a huge responsibility [in Formula One]. This is a platform to really spark change and spark difficult conversations. We can make a change, and I want to be part of that, making people feel more included. Motorsport – all sport – should not be allowed to continue with not being diverse.”
