Sarah Moore – racing driver

06 March 2025

To celebrate Women's History Month this March we present a series of articles on women and motoring. Our first is on the racing driver Sarah Moore.

Sarah is a Racing Pride ambassador and has been since the movement's launch in June 2019. She has won multiple titles in British motorsport including the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2009 and the Britcar Endurance Championship in 2018 - becoming the first woman to win the overall Britcar title. Sarah competed in W Series from 2019-2022, which saw her race across the world alongside Formula One. In 2021 she made history as the first openly LGBTQ+ driver to stand on the podium at a Formula One Grand Prix race weekend.

Since 2024 she has focused her attention on coaching, supporting young female talent as a driver coach on the More Than Equal programme which aims to find and develop a female Formula One World Champion.

“I believe that LGBTQ+ inclusivity within motorsport is as important as it is in any other sport or in day to day life.”

Sarah Moore

Sarah Moore is one of the featured figures in our exhibition Racing Pride: Celebrating the LGBTQ+ community in motorsport which opened in the National Motor Museum in February 2025, LGBTQ+ History Month.

LGBTQ+ people have always been part of motorsport, but their stories have all too often been hidden rather than celebrated. This exhibit shines a light on the unique personal journeys of LGBTQ+ individuals across motorsport disciplines from early trailblazers such as Roberta Cowell to heroes and role-models who are racing today. It recognises the crucial role of vocal, visible allies in creating a sport for everyone, from Formula One World Champions who have spoken up in support of the LGBTQ+ community such as Sir Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, to motorsport’s global fan community.
