The sprit of adventure - the Royal Enfield Himalayan and Enfield Bullet

Two extraordinary motorcycles have joined the displays at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. Both represent remarkable and impressive adventures on two wheels made by heroic riders, taking them on journeys that pushed boundaries and brought them in touch with different cultures and climate extremes.

The diminutive Royal Enfield Bullet was the bike of choice for former nurse Jacqui Furneaux when she embarked on a seven year, 40,000-mile adventure.

Jacqui bought the bike in India in 2000 and used it to explore India, Pakistan, southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Central America before returning home to Bristol.

Jacqui has inspired many others with tales of this and her subsequent travels in two books and at numerous events.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan with its studded tyres was the bike used in the 2021 90º South Expedition to the South Pole. In 2021 Royal Enfield marked 120 years of continuous motorcycle manufacture.

To show off the marque’s spirit and resilience two employees of the company, Santhosh Vijay (Rides & Community Programme Manager) and Dean Coxson (Senior Product Development Engineer) embarked on a heroic ride Himalayans to the South Pole.

The 90º South Expedition saw the riders and support crew travel 2,600 miles through some of the harshest conditions on Earth, experiencing temperatures as low as -30ºC, crossing Antarctica from the base at Camp Novo in Queen Maud Land to the Ross Ice Shelf.

The expedition used 4x4s with the bikes ridden for the final 186 miles, reaching the South Pole on 16th December 2021. The Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycles were virtually standard, the only modifications being studded tyres and the removal of the oil coolers.
