First introduced in 1992, the Honda CBR 900RR Fireblade soon dominated the market for high performance sports bikes, the so-called hyper-sports class, and became a top seller.

For 1996 capacity and performance were further increased, whilst refinements to the frame and suspension design resulted in greater rider comfort and improved handling. Despite an expensive price tag the Fireblade continued to outsell its rivals.
