As motoring gained in popularity through the 1920s and 30s, more and more families chose the family car for holiday transport. Popular small cars such as the Austin Seven and Morris Minor had limited luggage capacity but this could be greatly increased by towing a small trailer.

B. Dixon-Bate started making general engineering products and trailers in 1921. The D-B range of light trailers was launched in 1931, specifically aimed at the owners of the growing number of small cars. Dixon-Bate are still in business, as manufacturers of a large range of towing equipment.
