Best of British motoring comes to Yorkshire

The National Motor Museum and Bowcliffe Hall in Yorkshire are cooperating on a new classic motoring event that will see the Museum go on tour and engage with motoring enthusiasts in the north of England.

The new event, Bowcliffe & Beaulieu Masters of Motoring 2024, will take place at the Yorkshire stately home on Thursday 1 August.

Bowcliffe Hall is located at Bramham near Wetherby, West Yorkshire. Built between 1805 and 1825, the beautiful country house is a Grade II listed building. Located just minutes away from the A1M near Wetherby, the house provides a splendid setting for the display of classic cars.

Lord Montagu, President of the National Motor Museum, and his team will showcase some very special vehicles from the Museum’s collection. Racing cars across the decades: a 1903 Napier, one of earliest cars to wear British racing green, a 1950 BRM 1.5 litre V16, as well as the 1920 Sunbeam 350hp. A Lotus 49, chassis R3, which was raced in the 1967 Grand Prix by Graham Hill, and in the 1968 South African Grand Prix by John Love, will also take the journey north to the new event.

Jonathan Turner, the owner of Bowcliffe Hall, will also display some of his historic cars including a 1955 Jaguar D Type racing car not seen in the UK since the late 1960’s, the 1907 Itala he drove on the 2007 Peking Paris Rally complete with the Volga engine change in Siberia after breaking the crankshaft in the Gobi desert, as well as the ex-works Austin Healey driven on the 1964 RAC Rally by Paddy Hopkirk.

Lord Montagu says, “The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu is keen to engage with motoring enthusiasts in Yorkshire and neighbouring counties. I’m particularly pleased that we can do this at Bowcliffe and provide a glimpse of what we have in our vehicle collection in the New Forest.”

This will be a real celebration of motoring and we are delighted that Lord Montagu and his team have chosen Bowcliffe Hall to showcase the National Motor Museum in the North.”
