Goldie wins Royal Automobile Club’s Motorsport Book of the Year award

‘Goldie’ by John Mayhead, the first book by National Motor Museum Publishing, won a Motorsport Book of the Year award at the Royal Automobile Club’s 2024 Motoring Book of the Year Awards.

The title came top in the ‘books on a motor sporting subject, costing no more than £50’ category.

Author John Mayhead picked up the trophy at a special ceremony in central London in the presence of acclaimed motoring and motor racing authors from around the world, along with Vehicle and Research Curator, Patrick Collins representing the National motor Museum.

Winning the award is a major accolade for the author as Goldie is John’s first title and is a fitting commendation for National Motor Museum Publishing which worked with him to bring the story to fruition.

Sarah Wyatt of the National Motor Museum says, “Our goal  is to share the spirit, romance, and ingenuity of motoring in Britain and all over the globe with a wider audience, using our cherished archive, encouraging new authors, and committing untold histories to paper. John Mayhead’s Goldie is a perfect example of this, and we are delighted that the title has won this prestigious award.”

Motoring Book Of The Year Award Winners Authors And Publishers

Goldie tells the amazing true story of Goldie Gardner, the world’s most successful speed-record driver. The book has a foreword by The Duke of Richmond and was launched at the Goodwood Revival in September 2023.  John Mayhead is one of the UK’s foremost classic car writers and commentators, contributing regularly to various national newspapers and magazines, TV, radio and podcasts.
