National Motor Museum geared up with Bowcliffe Hall to celebrate Yorkshire Day
14 August 2024
The National Motor Museum headed on tour to collaborate with Bowcliffe Hall in West Yorkshire, for the Bowcliffe and Beaulieu: Masters of Motoring 2024 that took place on Yorkshire Day.
The Bowcliffe and Beaulieu: Masters of Motoring 2024 was a celebration of classic cars and vintage beauty from across the decades and Bowcliffe Hall was the picture-perfect backdrop for the extensive range of cars on show. The aim of the event was to help engage with motoring enthusiasts in the North and was coincidentally planned for the 1st August, a day commemorating Yorkshire.
Lord Montagu, the President of National Motor Museum showcased a plethora of 20th Century racing cars including a 1903 Napier, one of earliest cars to wear British racing green, a 1950 BRM 1.5 litre V16, as well as the 1920 Sunbeam 350hp.
He also displayed the same Lotus 49, chassis R3, which was raced in the 1967 Grand Prix by Graham Hill, and in the 1968 South African Grand Prix by John Love. This impressive collection sat beside the Owner of Bowcliffe Hall, Jonathan Turner’s 1955 Jaguar D Type racing car which has not been seen in the UK since the late 1960’s.

Speaking at the event, Jonathan Turner commented, “We are honoured here at Bowcliffe Hall to be able to host Lord Montagu and the National Motor Museum on a day commemorating Yorkshire. We had over 250 people attend today and it was a pleasure to be able to bring this event to Yorkshire and to our Bowcliffe Drivers’ Club members. We would like to thank Lord Montagu for choosing us and we hope that this can become an annual event that we look forward to each year.”

Nellie Rogers, Philanthropy Manager for the The National Motor Museum Trust said, “It was a delight to visit Bowcliffe Hall and co-host the Master of Motoring event. We were joined by Beaulieu 100 members Steve Austin, Martin Braybrook and John Bentley. The event was a great success with over 400 people attending on the day.”
Concours winners were:
- Best of British – Bert Degenaar with his 1925 3L Bentley
- Best in Show – Nigel Griffiths with his Ferrari 166 Le Mans Berlinetta
- People’s Choice Award – John Bentley with his 4.5L Blower Bentley
