Time to get close-up: Rick Guest photography on display at the National Motor Museum

Feats of engineering, personal endeavour, endurance, and achievement that pushed the boundaries, are the themes of a new exhibition showcasing the hyper-detailed photography of Rick Guest at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu.
“Closer To The Edge – Precision Photography by Rick Guest” opens on Saturday 23 March and is on until 8 September 2024.
Rick, of Legacy & Art, has a meticulous approach and a passion for his subject. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to interrogate his very precise close-up photographs of motoring objects.
Senior Curator of the Object Collection at the Museum, Gail Stewart-Bye says,” There’s a powerful sense of history and a direct connection with those who once owned the objects when you view Rick Guest’s incredible photographs. The exhibition in our In Focus gallery in the Museum has images that include star items from the National Motor Museum collections, such as the watch worn by World Land Speed Record breaker Henry Segrave.”
Images in the exhibition include motorcycle and F1 racer Mike Hailwood’s crash helmet, the silk helmet worn by Percy Lambert, the first person to drive a car 100 miles in an hour, and a steering wheel used by seven times F1 Champion, Lewis Hamilton.
Photographs taken by Rick Guest of the Sunbeam 1000hp World Land Speed Record vehicle, which is being restored by the Museum team, were recently featured in the prestigious car magazine, Magneto.

Rick Guest has shot large-scale and ambitious projects for clients such as Hugo Boss, Ferrari and Nike. His images exploring the beauty and power of ballet resulted in highly regarded solo exhibition. His work has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery.
