Rosemary (1910–1998) and Clifford Ellis (1907–1985) were married in 1931 and worked collaboratively from then on. They designed book jackets, murals and mosaics, and also posters for many organisations including the GPO and London Transport. Between 1943 and 1982 they designed nearly a hundred book covers for the New Naturalists series published by Collins. Clifford Ellis became head of the Bath School of Art in 1938 and was director of the Bath Academy of Art at Corsham Court between 1946 and 1972.
