Edna Clarke Hall

Edna Clarke Hall (1879–1979) was born in Settle; her father was the founder of the NSPCC in the UK. She entered the Slade at 15 under Professor Tonks where she was a contemporary and friend of Augustus and Gwen John and Matthew Smith. She was an artist and poet working in a variety of mediums (pencil, ink, watercolour, etchings, lithographs) and is well know for her Wuthering Heights illustrations which she worked on between 1902 and 1926. Her works feature in The British Museum, V & A, Tate and Manchester Art Galleries’ collections.
