Edward Ardizzone
Edward Ardizzone (1900–1978) was born in Haiphong, Indochina and studied in the evenings at Westminster School of Art while working as a clerk. He was an official war artist, recording in watercolour the German invasion of France and the North African and Italian campaigns. He illustrated nearly 200 books and it was as a childrens book illustrator that he is best known. He won the Kate Greenaway medal in 1957 for Tim All Alone. He taught at Camberwell School of Art and at the RCA, and was elected RA in 1970 and a Royal Designer for industry in 1974.
