Artist
Jock Kinneir
Jock Kinneir (1917–1994) was a graphic designer. He trained at Chelsea School of Art specialising in engraving. His first major commission in the mid 1950s was designing the signage scheme for Gatwick Airport and this project profoundly affected the future direction of his career. He went on to design motorway signage for the Ministry of Transport and then in 1964 he progressed to his most demanding project, the signs for all British roads. He established new standards in consistency and clarity for signs, with many of his solutions being adopted world-wide.
