In late 1964 Humber launched facelifted versions of its Hawk and Super Snipe large saloon models. Joining them was the new top of the range Imperial, in both saloon and limousine forms, reintroducing a model name last seen in the 1930s. These would be the last in the long and distinguished line of large Humbers, production finishing in 1967.
Compared with its sister models, the Imperial came with higher levels of equipment and trim. Features included PVC leathercloth roof, ‘Hydrosteer’ power assisted steering, Borg-Warner automatic transmission and ‘Selectaride’ automatically variable suspension as standard. Coachwork was by Thrupp & Maberly of Cricklewood, another company in the huge Rootes Group empire.
