Dave Wilson has been one of the top British drag-racing competitors since the late 1970s. He drove the Silverline Dragster to second place in the Top Methanol class of the 2009 FIA European Championships, accumulating 318 points. This car has recorded a best Elapsed Time (ET) for the quarter mile of 5.507 seconds, reaching a speed of 259mph.
Following the introduction of drag racing from the USA in the 1960s, the sport grew in popularity in Britain and across Europe. Santa Pod, Europe’s first purpose-built drag strip, opened at the former RAF airfield at Podington, Northamptonshire during 1966. Today there are European Championships for cars in the Top Fuel, Top Methanol Dragster, Top Methanol Funny Car, Pro Mod and Pro Stock categories.
All in all a very satisfying result for us in 2009
